The Hyundai Accent, also called as Verna is a subcompact car manufactured by Hyundai in South Korea. It is called as Verna in South Korean market.
First Generation (1995-1999)
The initial Hyundai Accent model was introduced as a replacement model to Ford Excel. It is also called as Brisa in Venezuela. The major competitors to the model include Toyota Tercel, Geo Metro and Ford Aspire. The main features in the model include visibility, instrument controls, fuel economy and optional antilock brakes. On the other hand, the passing power, engine noise and driving position were considered as main drawbacks.
The first generation Hyundai Accent was offered in both two-door hatchback and in four-door sedan body styles. The standard engine to the model include 1.5 liter four-cylinder version that delivers power up to 92 hp and the engine is mated to standard 5-speed manual transmission. The optional transmission available to the model was 4-speed automatic.
Second Generation (2000-2005)
The Hyundai Accent model was slightly redesigned in 2000 and the key features in the model were visibility and great fuel economy rates. The exterior dimensions of the model were slightly enlarged, overall length increased by 5 inches, and wheel base by 1.6 inches.
Third Generation (2006-Present)
The current generation Hyundai Accent is offered as only two-door hatchback body style and it is available in two trim versions, the base model GS and up-level SE. The major competitors to the model include Pontiac G3, Scion xB, Honda Fit and Chevrolet Aveo.
The only engine available to the 2009 Hyundai Accent include 1.6 liter DOHC I-4 version that delivers 110 hp of power at 6000 rpm and torque of 106 lb ft at 4500 rpm. The standard engine can be mated to either 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. With the I-4 engine, the compact car can achieve fuel economy of 26 miles per gallon in the city premises and 35 miles per gallon on the highway roads.
